z Coopers Rock

(recommended for kids aged 9 to 12)

Our Coopers Rock Trip is the perfect introduction to outdoor rock climbing for young climbers members. Located near Morgantown, WV, Coopers is one of the best climbing areas in the East Coast—plus, it has great top-roping, easy hikes, flat landings and hundreds of routes to choose from! Climbers will spend 5 days bouldering, top-roping and rappelling in the park. Skills covered will include: basic rappelling, bouldering and bouldering safety, knot tying and basic rope skills, leave no trace hiking and camping ethics, and general outdoor climbing safety. Climbers will also, of course, have a chance to test their climbing skills on real rock, learning improved technique and a repertoire of moves that will improve their overall ability and confidence as climbers. Climbers will stay in the State Park Campground, a few miles from Coopers Rock.  The camping area includes a lake and even an indoor climbing wall in case of rain!

Pre-requisites: PRG belay certification or equivalent experience.

When?  August 4-8

Cost?  $695 per climber

z Adirondak State Park                                                  (recommended for kids aged 13 & up) The Adirondaks are the Yosemite Valley of the East. Some of the biggest and best granite walls are located in the 1,000,000+ acre Adirondak State Park near Lake Placid, NY. Climbers will spend 6 days climbing and hiking in the Keene Valley. More than just a climbing trip, kids will learn about areas of climbing which cannot be taught in a gym—anchor building, seconding a multi-pitch route, safety and route-finding in a wilderness environment, as well as outdoor bouldering and hiking in the backcountry.  Climbers will stay in the Chapel Pond Campground, within walking distance of Chapel Pond. Camping is primitive and pristine.

Pre-requisites: PRG belay certification or equivalent experience. 
 

When?  July 21-26
                August 10-15

z New River Gorge                                                         (recommended for kids aged 13 & up)The New River Gorge is the largest and the best climbing area in the East! The Gorge proper has over 6 miles of cliff line, including nearly 2000 routes for sport, top-roping and traditional climbing—that does not even include Summersville Lake and the more than two dozen other satellite areas around Fayetteville, WV. Climbers will spend 4 days sport climbing, top-roping and rappelling in the New. Climbers will have a chance to hone their climbing skills on some of the best rock in the world, improving technique and developing a repertoire of moves that will improve their overall ability and confidence as climbers. Skills covered will include: rappelling, sport climbing and anchor management, slab, vertical and steep overhangs. Plus, weather permitting, swimming in Summersville Lake under 80 foot cliffs!Climbers will stay in the Mountain State Park Campground, less than a mile from the gorge. Campground includes showers, firepits and other basic amenities.

z Red River Gorge
Our most popular expedition, our annual trek to the the premier sport climbing crag in the East. Whether training for Nationals, or just looking to improve your leading & experience real rock, the Red is home to more than 1000 routes of all ability levels that will keep any young climber occupied for many years. In fact, the bulk of our climbers return year after year to tag new projects and eat the best Pizza in Kentucky! Lead by head coach, Dave Rowland, and a staff of experienced guides, climbers learn to improve their skills.

Pre-requisites: Lead Climbing & Lead Belaying Training, permission of Head Coach.
 
   
When?  4 Week Session: 6/14-7/13 Recommended for ages 14 & up.
                   2 Week Sessions: 6/14-28, 6/21-7/5 & 6/29-7/13 Recommended for ages 14 & up.
