Local climbers Nick Picarella & Solomon Barth take 2nd
and 3rd place at US National Climbing Championships. Team
PRG ranked 12th in the nation in Salt Lake City, UT.
Salt Lake City, July 13, 2009—This past weekend Team PRG members
Nick Picarella (Chester Springs) and Solomon Barth (Collegeville)
took home the Silver and Bronze medals, respectively, for their age
group at the summer Youth National Championships. Making the
accomplishments all the more impressive, this was the first National
Championship Nick had attended, and only the second for Solomon, who
is also the current North American Continental Champion for his age
group. These placements qualify both competitors for the US Youth
National Team, and an opportunity to represent the country in the
next Continental Games in 2010. Solomon also took home a silver
medal for the Speed Climbing discipline and earned a place on the US
Speed Team.
Over 400 of the best youth competitors from all over the country
attended the event in Salt Lake City, UT. Overall Team PRG, the
Philadelphia Rock Gym’s own youth climbing team, placed two athletes
on the US Climbing Team for the Difficulty discipline, and one for
the Speed Climbing discipline, placing 12th overall in
the team competition.
Congratulations to
all Team PRG members!
